How to Prepare Group 2 ITSM?

I NEED YOUR ATTENTION TOO!!! – “ITSM”

  1. Advanced Accounts - Coaching classes
  2. Audit – Best’s Teacher's book purchased
  3. IT-SM – “Umm..yaar end mein dekhlenge isse toh ! “

  • Bingo?  Right? Most of us might have thought this way one or other day.  We CA IPCC level students tend to have a habit of ignoring not so scoring exams or theory subjects and save them for the last days.
  • According to me it has become a trend.  What I have observed is that students take coaching classes, arrange video lectures, theory books, scanners for audit and accounts because they are considered more practical subjects than ITSM and maintain a casual approach towards this subject.
  • But you know what this subject can be interesting and scoring too if we pay a little more attention than we usually plan to give it.

Too much of lecture? .. Hahah.. No, I am not an IT-SM subject teacher promoting any tuition for the same.  I am just another CA aspirant like you. I cleared my IPCC Group 2 this June which I thought would not be possible because I too kind of had the same mind set of saving ITSM for the last days. I did not go for any classes for this subject as I use to think that SM is so similar to Business Studies – a subject that we had in our 12th standard , all theory , nothing much to understand ,”4-5 days mein hojaega” and talking about IT , I literally used to curse ICAI that why do we have to study this,  we the students of Chartered Accountancy course who are meant to play with numbers what we have to do with these gigabytes , spoofing, and many more technical terms.  I use to fear IT and that is why used to avoid studying it.  However after wasting lot of time, by the end of March I realised that if I could have picked up ITSM a bit earlier, I would have saved myself from “Last Moment Panic”.

What I did?
  • To save my time from attending 5-6 hours long coaching classes daily and that too almost on the other side of the city ,
  • I decided to attend a 3 day fast-track batch for SM  and
  • took help of my friends pursuing  B.Tech or Information Technology as their core subject  to rescue myself form IT.

SM:
  • I joined a 3 day fast-track batch.
  • My motive behind joining this 3 day class was that with this I’ll be able to get a glimpse of entire SM syllabus and would become capable enough to write answers in exams.
  • Here we were provided with a 100-150 page spiral (Sanjivni Booti- as Sir calls it). These classes and those notes indeed proved to be a perfect combination for me for scoring in SM.

IT:
  • For preparing Information technology, (something out of my league) I took help of my friends belonging to science streams.
  • Rather than going to renowned teachers, I decided to understand topics (database, internet chapters, flowcharts etc.) from people who are currently studying Information technology as their core subject.
  • I did this because they translated the whole chapter in layman’s language, which obviously made this subject easy for me and gave me enough content that I can put on my answer sheets.
  • So, if you have lost all hope in this subject, you can try this because your friend will try his/her best to make you understand the concept in your language as they have practical application of the subject and secondly you can clarify your doubts easily with them.

This is how I prepared for IT-SM in such a hassle way manner, making one of them my strong point and managed to get a reasonable score of 57 on my score card. If it’s your story too, or you relate to it, I would suggest you that start giving attention to this subject sooner rather than later. ITSM do looks easy and is easy if and only if given due attention, also with this you may even end getting an exemption it .
All the best !
